Influential Pope Francis accepts the Scientific Big Bang theory. The Christian Faith had dictated that God had created the world in seven days. When the Bible was penned the christian community did not have a grasp on our modern theories of space, time or the world around them. In the last few decades the Roman Catholic Church has been under scrutiny for allegations of sexual abuse and while attempting to change the poor state of their reputation in the public eye, they have began to undergo a dynamic analysis of modern scientific facts and theories.
Numerous times throughout history the Roman Catholic church has taken a point of opposition when revolutionary scientific break through and discoveries are made. They have been recorded to burn heretics at the stake for stating alleged blasphemous theories of existence outside our own and placed great minds into exile for discovering facts that are contrary to the Church’s teachings.
The most recent Pope, Pope Francis, was born under the name of Jorge Mario Bergolio, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He lived a similar life to other citizens of the south American Country before being named as the current Pope in 2013. It is noted that before beginning his seminary studies, he worked in many different fields and positions, ranging from chemical technician to night club bouncer.
Within the last 70 years the Roman Catholic Church has been attempting to give its self a “face-lift” by acknowledging and accepting scientific theories that contradicted their own theological beliefs. In 1950 Pope Pius XII, had spoke publicly about Charles Darwins theories on evolution. Although Pope Pius did not confirm nor deny the possibilities of the 100 year old theory, it was remarkable that he entertained the notion of evolution. Several decades later Pope John Paul took a stance that creationism and evolution could be tied together.
The current leader of the Roman Catholic Church, is now taking a modern view on many subjects. Not only on evolution but the widely accepted “Big Bang Theory”.
Pope Francis recently has endorse the theory that the known universe was created by a volatile eruption of matter some 13.8 billion years ago. Previously the Roman Catholic church followed closely to the ancient tome called the book of Genesis; where it is stated that God Created the world in seven days. In regard to Genesis, the current Pope stated his view that God is not a magician with a magic wand.
